Wait five to ten minutes, remove the foil completely, and then flush.
How the Foil Hack Works
Proponents of this trick claim the foil softens the wastewater. It supposedly neutralizes contaminants that degrade and stain ceramic surfaces.
When you flush after removing the foil, the water will often run yellow, leaving behind a completely clean cistern for the next use.
However, there is one critical warning attached to this trend: never leave the aluminum foil in the tank.
Failing to remove the metal balls before flushing can lead to severe blockages and costly plumbing complications.

Her go-to method involves soaking paper towels in concentrated cleaning vinegar and pressing them directly onto the stained areas.
“Leave it to rest overnight, remove the paper, and you will see that it is impeccable,” Fernández advised.
She explained that the acetic acid in the vinegar slowly dissolves limescale and tartar deposits, making the prolonged overnight exposure highly effective.
