The 46-year-old CBS Sports NFL analyst was taken into custody around 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 23. The incident was first reported by local outlets WISN 12 News and WTMJ.
Traffic Stop on Interstate 43
The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office initiated the traffic stop while Romo was driving on a high-rise bridge along southbound I-43.

During the encounter, deputies suspected impairment. Romo was reportedly unable to complete standard field sobriety tests, leading to his arrest for an alleged OWI.
Upcoming Court Date and Penalties
Romo was processed and later released from police custody. He is scheduled to make his next court appearance on Sept. 21.
Under Wisconsin state law, a first-offense OWI is treated as a civil citation rather than a criminal charge. If found guilty, the standard penalty carries a fine ranging from $150 to $300.

Romo spent his entire 14-season playing career with the Dallas Cowboys before officially retiring from the field in April 2017.
