Medical expert Dr. Jorge Tartaglione is sounding the alarm on a daily kitchen habit: microwaving food in plastic containers. Speaking on the LN+ network, the doctor warned that this common practice exposes individuals to harmful microplastics.

Instead of plastic, Tartaglione strongly recommends switching to glass containers built to withstand high temperatures. The conversation sparked during a segment about everyday routines that people perform without a second thought.
“I’m going to bring up something we humans do daily and don’t realize,” Tartaglione told the hosts. “You have a microwave, how do you heat your food?”
Tartaglione advised using glass or ceramic containers and cups to heat food and beverages in the microwave.
When one of the hosts mentioned using a glass container, the doctor immediately praised the choice. “Excellent,” Tartaglione replied.
“The message for you at home, to wrap up with a healthy takeaway, is to try not to put plastic items in the microwave,” he explained. “They contain microplastics, and we know very clearly today that each of us has a large quantity in our bodies that impacts our health.”
The Truth About ‘Microwave-Safe’ Plastics
The medical expert did not hold back when asked about plastic containers specifically marketed and labeled for microwave use.
“Even those that say they are microwave-safe?” a host asked.
“Even the ones that are safe, it is suggested not to use them,” Tartaglione responded.
He stressed that the safest scenario involves relying exclusively on heat-resistant glass. “What Robert says is ideal: have glass containers to put in the microwave, safe for heat,” he added.
Glass allows you to reheat meals efficiently without the chemical risks associated with plastics. However, it remains essential to verify that your glass containers are explicitly designed for high temperatures and are free of cracks to prevent shattering.
