The cause of death for Chris Anne Affleck, the mother of Hollywood actors Ben and Casey Affleck, has officially been confirmed.
Chris passed away at the age of 83 on June 2. Official death records reveal she suffered cardiopulmonary arrest while visiting her son’s residence.

Her sudden passing was compounded by a prior medical battle. Records list pancreatic adenocarcinoma as a contributing condition leading to her death.
She originally received a pancreatic cancer diagnosis in December 2025. At the time, doctors gave her just six months to live.
The Affleck family kept the news private for weeks, formally announcing her death on July 24. No autopsy was performed.
A Life of Activism and Education

Long before her sons became household names, Chris built a formidable legacy of her own. Born Christopher Anne Boldt in New York City in December 1942, she dedicated her life to education and civil rights.
After graduating from Harvard, she spent 35 years working as a public school teacher before retiring in 2008.
During the volatile 1960s, she put her beliefs into action. As a committed civil rights activist, Chris traveled to Mississippi in 1964 to teach literacy classes as part of the historic Freedom Summer campaign.
The Architect of Two Hollywood Careers

Chris married Timothy Affleck, and the couple welcomed Ben in 1972 and Casey in 1975. Though the marriage ended in divorce when Ben was 12, Chris remained the anchor of her sons’ lives.
She was instrumental in launching their acting careers. Leveraging her network, she connected Ben with casting director Patty Collins, her former Harvard roommate, to help him get his start in the industry.
According to her obituary, Chris was incredibly proud of her family’s success. She was especially delighted whenever her sons “questioned, defied, or cleverly engaged authority.”
She is survived by Ben, 53, and Casey, 50, as well as her five grandchildren: Indiana, 22, Violet, 20, Atticus, 18, Fin, 17, and Sam, 12.
