Cutting through the usual reality TV rumors, we finally have our first major confirmed athlete for the dancefloor. Dame Sarah Storey is officially joining the 2026 cast of Strictly Come Dancing.
The BBC announced today that Britain’s most successful Paralympian will be part of the lineup when the show returns this autumn.
Trading the Velodrome for the Ballroom
If you follow British sports, you already know who Sarah Storey is. She holds an incredible 17 Paralympic gold medals, dominating first in swimming and then in cycling.
Now, she is taking on a completely different physical challenge. Strictly is known for its grueling rehearsal schedules, but as a seasoned elite athlete, she is obviously no stranger to hard work, repetitive drills, and strict discipline.
What We Know So Far
Right now, we are in the middle of July 2026, and the BBC is just starting to reveal the official names for the upcoming season. We only have the celebrity roster, not the professional pairings.
- Her professional dance partner has not been announced yet.
- Group training will begin later this summer before the live shows start in September.
- She joins a long tradition of Olympians and Paralympians taking on the Strictly challenge.
Athletes tend to have a strong track record on this show simply because their bodies are used to taking direction and training for hours on end.
We will have to wait until the launch show to see if her cycling stamina actually translates into a solid quickstep or a salsa. For now, we wait as the rest of the 2026 celebrity lineup continues to drop over the coming weeks.
