Why Panasonic is Recalling Toaster Ovens in the US and Canada
Panasonic has initiated a major safety recall of over 13,000 electric toaster ovens across the United States and Canada. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall on July 16, 2026, citing a dangerous defect in the appliance’s power cord insulation.
The technical flaw involves the fiberglass protection on the power cord, which may fail to cover the insulation adequately. This manufacturing defect significantly increases the risk of electric shock and potential fires in consumer homes.
This recall is a coordinated safety measure between the CPSC and Health Canada. Both agencies have urged users to immediately unplug the affected appliances and halt all use.
Affected Models and Where They Were Sold
The safety alert covers a total of 13,664 Panasonic FlashXpress electric toaster ovens. The recall isolates 11,480 units of model NB-G200 sold in the United States, and 2,184 units of model NB-G205S distributed in Canada.
Consumers purchased these faulty units between November 2025 and March 2026. The toaster ovens were widely available through major retailers like Costco, Amazon, and various other e-commerce platforms.
To check if an appliance is part of the recall, users should locate the model number printed directly on the label at the back of the oven.
Reported Incidents and Safety Risks
The primary concern driving the recall is the exposed wiring caused by insufficient fiberglass shielding. While no injuries or property damage were reported as of June 15, 2026, the electrical hazard remains severe.
Panasonic decided to pull the products voluntarily after receiving five separate incident reports in the United States. Four of these cases involved the appliance tripping residential circuit breakers, while the fifth involved a toaster oven suddenly ceasing to function.
According to official statements provided to the CPSC, Panasonic noted: “The fiberglass protection may not adequately cover the power cord, posing a risk of electric shock and/or fire.”
What Consumers Need to Do Next
Safety regulators are clear: do not attempt to repair the defective toaster ovens. Anyone who owns the NB-G200 or NB-G205S models must stop using them immediately and unplug them from wall outlets.
Consumers are entitled to a full refund and should contact Panasonic directly to initiate the return process. The CPSC confirmed that buyers will not incur any out-of-pocket costs to return the hazardous items.
Under Canadian law, it is strictly prohibited to sell, redistribute, or give away recalled products. Health Canada has emphasized the importance of following proper return channels to permanently remove these defective electronics from circulation.
