Defending the Extravagant Nuptials
Country music star Brad Paisley is pushing back against critics of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s Madison Square Garden wedding. He insists the highly publicized event was entirely grounded.
“Ironically, it was one of the least pretentious weddings I’ve ever seen or ever will see,” Paisley told the Associated Press on Saturday.
The personalized invitation left a lasting impression on the singer. “I took this personally when I got the invite, because in the invite it said, ‘If you’re getting this, you mean a lot to us.'”
A Secretive “Cat and Mouse” Game
Paisley revealed the extreme lengths Swift went to keep the celebration under wraps. Securing the final event details was a “cat and mouse game” for the guests.
“We can tell you roughly where it’s going to be,” Paisley recalled the invitation stating. “We’re not going to say which building. Here’s the date and if you’re in, we’ll tell you more.”
The country icon viewed his presence at the milestone event as a heartfelt gesture. “It meant a lot to be [invited]. It was kind of a big thank you from her to invite us,” he said.
A Decades-Long Bond
Paisley’s remarks stand in direct contrast to recent public backlash. Former NBA star Charles Barkley notably slammed the event as a “crap show.”
However, Paisley and Swift share a deep mentor-mentee relationship tracing back to the pop star’s earliest days in the industry.
In 2007, Paisley invited a 17-year-old Swift to open for his “Bonfires & Amplifiers” tour. That pivotal decision helped launch her massive career as a young country artist.
Inside the Garden-Themed Ceremony
Swift and Kelce, both 36, officially tied the knot on July 3. The star-studded nuptials brought more than 1,000 guests to the iconic New York City venue.
The couple reportedly spent between $20 million and $25 million on the celebration.
Comedian Adam Sandler officiated the ceremony, which completely transformed Madison Square Garden with a lush garden theme.
