A Final Push for Outdoor Connection

A three-year community gardening project in Luton is entering its final stretch. Residents now have a limited time to participate in the free outdoor program before it wraps up later this year.

Organized by Groundwork East, the community wellbeing initiative focuses on bringing locals together through nature. The project is fully funded by the Luton Rising Community Investment Fund.

Growing Food and Community

Over the past three years, the Memorial Park food hub has transformed into a collaborative educational space. Participants learn how to grow fresh produce, share their harvests, and adopt healthier, active lifestyles.

The group hosts free family sessions every Wednesday. Dedicated community gardening sessions run on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Attendees get hands-on experience cultivating fruits and vegetables. They also help build wildlife-friendly habitats, including bug hotels and butterfly feeders.

All activities are completely free, with organizers providing all necessary materials on-site.

Welcoming New Faces

Project lead Kealey Henderson is urging more locals to take advantage of the program during its final stage.

“It has been brilliant to see people using the garden, learning new skills and enjoying time outdoors,” Henderson said. “What we would really love is for more families and adults to come along to the community gardening and family sessions in this final stage.”

While the project already boasts a dedicated core group, organizers emphasize that newcomers of all experience levels are welcome.

“We have a great group of regulars, but we’d love to see more people get involved,” Henderson continued. “The sessions are friendly, informal and a great way to spend time outside, meet others and help keep this community space growing. I encourage anyone who is curious to come along and give it a try.”
