An unvarnished wooden spoon inside a glass bottle absorbing condensation.
Reusable glass carafes, SodaStream bottles, and plastic gym flasks all share one fatal flaw. Cleaning them is quick, but drying them takes endless patience.
Turning a bottle upside down rarely works. The rim seals against the drying rack, preventing airflow and leaving the interior covered in stubborn condensation.
Trapped moisture eventually leads to bad odors and hard limescale deposits. Fortunately, a viral social media kitchen hack solves this annoying problem using a basic household item.
The 15-Minute Drying Hack
To banish lingering moisture from your freshly washed bottles, all you need is a standard wooden spoon. Follow these simple steps:
- Wash your bottle thoroughly by hand or in the dishwasher.
- Shake out as much residual water into the sink as possible.
- Take an unvarnished wooden spoon and drop the long handle directly into the bottle.
- Leave the spoon inside for roughly 15 minutes.
The untreated wood actively draws out internal moisture. Within minutes, it clears the condensation film and leaves the glass or plastic completely dry.
Important Hygiene Rules
Clean wooden spoons resting on a kitchen counter.
You can perform this trick with the bottle standing upright or inverted. Inverting the bottle works well, but balancing a heavy glass carafe on a spoon handle can be unstable.
Always use a perfectly clean and dry wooden spoon. Inserting a damp or dirty spoon into a drinking vessel will breed unwanted germs.
Check the width of your spoon handle before dropping it in. It must be narrow enough to leave a small gap at the bottle’s opening, allowing the humid air to escape.
Once your bottle is perfectly dry, pull the spoon out. Leave the wood on your counter to air-dry completely before using it for another bottle.
