Preparing for “The Last Dance”
Travis Kelce is gearing up for what might be his final season in the NFL.
Nearly three weeks after marrying Taylor Swift at Madison Square Garden, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end is back in the gym. His longtime friend and trainer, Cris Carter, hinted heavily that the 2026-2027 season will close out Kelce’s career.
“Andrew [Spruill] and I started with Travis before his rookie year in the NFL,” Carter wrote on a July 20 Instagram post. “Know the [GOAT] is preparing for THE LAST DANCE. Next stop Canton/HOF.”
Carter’s post included a photo of the three-time Super Bowl champion alongside his training team. Kelce wore a black University of Cincinnati Bearcats T-shirt, matching shorts, and red and black Nike sneakers.
As Kelce placed his arm around Carter, his new wedding band was clearly visible.
Committing to Year 14
Despite the looming retirement rumors, Kelce is confirmed to play his 14th season.
Months earlier, amid widespread speculation that he was stepping away from football, Kelce committed to returning. On March 9, the New Heights podcast he shares with his brother Jason announced, “TRAVIS KELCE IS BACK WITH THE CHIEFS FOR YEAR 14.”
The NFL also verified his return for the 2026-2027 season, posting an official video with the caption, “He’s not done yet.”
Kelce has remained vague about a hard exit date. Following a challenging 2025-2026 season, he admitted his timeline was up in the air.
“Who knows? Either [a decision] hits me quick, or I gotta take some time,” Kelce told The Kansas City Star in January. “Last year was a little bit easier. I think I knew right away I wanted to give this [year] a shot. I don’t know. We’ll see.”
An Intimate Spectacle at Madison Square Garden
Kelce and Swift, both 36, married on July 3 during a massive ceremony in New York City.
Despite a 1,000-person guest list at Madison Square Garden, the couple kept the wedding party strictly within the family. Instead of traditional bridesmaids and groomsmen, Austin Swift served as the Man of Honor while Jason Kelce stood in as Best Man.
