“My Heart Will Never Be Whole Again”
Wonsley, a healthcare provider accustomed to counseling others through trauma, expressed that her professional background could not prepare her for this agonizing reality. “Right now everything is so heavy,” she said in the tearful video.
“Now to be on the other side of this, it’s a lot,” she continued. She noted that while losing her mother years ago was painful, this tragedy feels entirely different, calling the grief “unsurmountable.”
She described her daily mourning as a violent roller coaster, where a moment of calm can instantly turn into overwhelming despair. “I feel like I can’t breathe and I feel like there is an elephant just sitting on my chest, but I know this is the process,” Wonsley explained.

The Final Hours on Horn Island
The exact timeline of Nolan’s final hours remains a crucial part of the ongoing investigation. The teenager from Ocean Springs, Mississippi, traveled to Horn Island with his friends but did not return on the same vessel.
Jackson County Chancery Judge Ashlee Cole, whose son was among Nolan’s friends, said her son last saw Wells at around 3 p.m. that day. Cole stated that the group left the island around 4:30 p.m. because their boat was taking on water and having issues with its bilge pump.
“Nolan made a decision to stay on the island and return inland later with another group of friends,” Cole noted. Audio reviewed by NBC News confirmed the vessel, carrying roughly seven passengers, faced mechanical difficulties around 4 p.m.

A Search for Answers
Nolan was reported missing on the evening of July 4. His body was found two days later in the water just offshore near the northwest end of the island.
Authorities ultimately relied on dental records to formally identify the teenager. Jackson County Sheriff John Ledbetter stated that investigators currently have no reason to suspect foul play.

Despite early indications pointing to an accidental drowning, Wonsley remains determined to uncover the complete truth of what happened that afternoon. She told her supporters she believes Nolan would want her to keep pushing.
“I know if Nolan was here, he’d be like, ‘Mom, just keep talking to the people. Keep telling my story,’” she shared.
Through her darkest moments, Wonsley credits her faith and a strong support system for keeping her moving forward. However, she admits the profound shock has delayed her ability to process the tragedy.
“The loss is so fresh and still we haven’t been able to grieve,” she wrote.
