Shakira dominated the stadium in a custom look by Roberto Cavalli. Designed by the Italian house’s creative director, Fausto Puglisi, the garment served as a striking, heavily embellished focal point.
The outfit required roughly 120 hours of meticulous craftsmanship to hand-apply more than 200,000 Swarovski crystals. Inspired by sunset tones and the vibrant building facades of Mexico City’s Condesa neighborhood, the striking color palette fused bold orange, yellow, and hot pink.
Deconstructing the Custom Look
Puglisi reimagined a silhouette from the Roberto Cavalli Resort 2025 collection. While it gave the illusion of a flowing dress, the outfit was actually a complex two-piece set built for intense movement.
The top featured a bodysuit with a plunging lace-up crossover neckline and sharp side cutouts. Below, a draped skirt utilized the moulage technique, combining embroidered satin chiffon with dramatic fringe detailing.
The entire ensemble showcased a bespoke “Ray of Sunset” print. This custom pattern was created specifically for Shakira as a vibrant twist on Cavalli’s iconic “Ray of Gold” motif.
A 16-Year Style Callback
The Cavalli design carried deep symbolic weight for the singer’s World Cup legacy. The flowing silhouette and warm sunset colors intentionally mirrored the outfit she wore 16 years ago to perform “Waka Waka” at the 2010 World Cup closing ceremony in South Africa.
In 2010, Spain also took home the trophy. With the Spanish team winning the World Cup again in 2026, Shakira’s wardrobe choice served as an unofficial good-luck charm for the European champions.
