The Danger Hidden in Panasonic Ovens

Panasonic is recalling more than 13,000 electric toaster ovens across the United States and Canada. A defect in the power cord insulation has sparked an official warning over potential electric shocks and sudden fires.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Health Canada issued the joint alert on July 16, 2026. The recall targets users who purchased these appliances between November 2025 and March 2026.

Affected Models and Retailers

The recall impacts exactly 13,664 Panasonic FlashXpress toaster ovens. This includes 11,480 units of model NB-G200 sold in the U.S. and 2,184 units of model NB-G205S distributed in Canada.

Consumers primarily bought these defect-prone devices at major retailers like Costco and Amazon, along with various other online platforms. Owners can verify their appliance by checking the model number printed on the back label.

The Root of the Electrical Hazard

The technical flaw lies in the fiberglass protection surrounding the power cord. According to the CPSC, this casing fails to adequately cover the core insulation, leaving users highly vulnerable to electrical and fire hazards.

Panasonic decided to pull the products voluntarily after receiving five separate incident reports in the United States. Four of these reports detailed tripped household circuit breakers, while another involved the device abruptly shutting down.

As of June 15, 2026, no injuries or property damage have been reported.

Next Steps for Consumers

Federal authorities strongly advise owners to unplug and stop using the affected toaster ovens immediately. Attempting to repair the frayed wiring at home poses a severe safety risk.

Panasonic is offering a full refund for all defective units. Consumers will not incur any return costs and can initiate the process directly through Panasonic’s customer service or via the CPSC portal.

In Canada, strict consumer safety regulations make it illegal to sell, redistribute, or give away any recalled product.
